21,000 words under sea level

three weeks of
writer's confinement
one wisdom tooth crisis
21ooo words
a gastroscopy
(no worries yet)
and a summer passing
down my window?

the streets of napoli

some cities are not built
they spread like bacteria
reaching over topographies through abrupt gestures
napoli is one of them
the only one?
grandma will make pasta, and right next to her,
in the middle of the kitchen, someone will park a motorcycle,
tyres muddy from the rain outside,
and we will eat straight from the gigantic pot,
looking out on the street, through a door that we never close and,
through the rain,
there will be gushes of water of a different provenance,
the juice of dirty laundry graced by the tired smell of dirty soap
napoli is hungry
to climb up past the web of balconies
to clean up and erase the scars
but
napoli is eating well tonight...

a little bit of homemade pasta with fresh seafood, rich people's homes on impossible precipices, old people nodding off into their soup, the occasional blue-eyed swimming pool, a tennis court suspended over a lagoon, too many languid looks suggesting satiety or a certain boredom of a very pleasant kind
