only occasionally is there a glass to separate the child from the world, the side known from that unexplored, the hand from the oven, the water from the oil, the benign from the harmful. so much the better, then, for arbitrary gestures, unbound desire, calamitous alloys, and danger-- pure, magnificent, instructive...
